Description
MOS capacitor, full name metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitor, is the core component of metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). MOS capacitor consists of a three-layer structure: the upper layer is a gate electrode (gate) made of metal, the lower layer is a base (substrate) made of semiconductor, and the middle layer is filled with oxide, usually silicon dioxide (SiO2). This structure forms a capacitor, in which the metal gate and the semiconductor base serve as the two plates of the capacitor, and the oxide layer in the middle serves as an insulating layer. The working principle of MOS capacitor is based on the charging and discharging characteristics of the capacitor. When a voltage is applied to the gate, an electric field is formed between the gate and the semiconductor base. This electric field changes the charge distribution on the surface of the semiconductor base, thereby forming a capacitive effect. Specifically, when the gate voltage is positive, it attracts negative charges (electrons) in the semiconductor to move toward the gate to form a depletion layer; when the gate voltage is large enough, it even forms an inversion layer, that is, the charge type on the semiconductor surface is opposite to that in the body.

Description
MOS capacitor, full name metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitor, is the core component of metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). MOS capacitor consists of a three-layer structure: the upper layer is a gate electrode (gate) made of metal, the lower layer is a base (substrate) made of semiconductor, and the middle layer is filled with oxide, usually silicon dioxide (SiO2). This structure forms a capacitor, in which the metal gate and the semiconductor base serve as the two plates of the capacitor, and the oxide layer in the middle serves as an insulating layer. The working principle of MOS capacitor is based on the charging and discharging characteristics of the capacitor. When a voltage is applied to the gate, an electric field is formed between the gate and the semiconductor base. This electric field changes the charge distribution on the surface of the semiconductor base, thereby forming a capacitive effect. Specifically, when the gate voltage is positive, it attracts negative charges (electrons) in the semiconductor to move toward the gate to form a depletion layer; when the gate voltage is large enough, it even forms an inversion layer, that is, the charge type on the semiconductor surface is opposite to that in the body.
